Our Approach to Coastal Charters
Operating since 2019, we focus on safe passages, comfortable vessels, and knowledgeable crew.
Return HomeAbout pelagiynas
pelagiynas was established in 2019 when a group of maritime professionals and coastal enthusiasts recognized an opportunity to offer thoughtful yacht charter services around Sabah's diverse waters. The founding team brought together experience from commercial shipping, recreational sailing, and tourism management, united by a shared appreciation for responsible seamanship and genuine hospitality.
Our name reflects our philosophy. "Pelagic" refers to the open water environment—the realm we navigate daily. "Muse" suggests contemplation and inspiration, which we believe comes naturally when spending time on the water, away from routine pressures. We aim to facilitate those moments through reliable vessels, competent crew, and well-planned routes.
Since our first charter departure in early 2019, we've gradually expanded our fleet from a single cabin cruiser to four vessels ranging from 34 to 48 feet. Each addition has been carefully selected based on seaworthiness, comfort, and suitability for Sabah's coastal conditions. We maintain a deliberate pace of growth, ensuring each vessel receives proper care and each crew member receives thorough training.
Our operations center in Kota Kinabalu provides access to the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, the Mantanani Islands, and various coastal passages along Sabah's western shoreline. We work closely with local marine authorities, conservation groups, and island communities to ensure our activities align with environmental stewardship and regional regulations.

Maritime Licensing
All skippers hold valid Malaysian maritime licenses appropriate to vessel class and operating area. Crew members maintain current first aid and sea survival certifications.
Vessel Maintenance
Each vessel follows a documented maintenance schedule covering engine systems, safety equipment, navigation electronics, and hull integrity. Annual surveys conducted by certified marine surveyors.
Safety Equipment
All vessels carry life jackets for maximum capacity, flares, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, VHF radios, GPS navigation, and emergency position-indicating beacons.
Insurance Coverage
Comprehensive marine insurance covering hull, machinery, third-party liability, and passenger coverage. Policy limits reviewed annually in consultation with insurance advisors.
Weather Monitoring
Skippers receive daily weather briefings and access real-time meteorological data. Departures delayed or routes adjusted when conditions exceed safe operating parameters.
Environmental Practices
No-discharge policies in marine park zones, waste management protocols, reef-safe practices, and cooperation with local conservation initiatives. Crew trained in minimal-impact anchoring techniques.
Our Values and Commitment
We believe yacht charter experiences should prioritize genuine enjoyment over manufactured luxury. Our vessels are comfortable and well-equipped, but we don't pretend they're floating palaces. What we do promise is honest seamanship, reliable machinery, and crew who take pride in their work.
Safety decisions always take precedence over schedule convenience. If a skipper recommends postponement due to weather, we support that judgment without hesitation. The ocean sets the terms, not the calendar.
Transparency guides our client interactions. Charter pricing is straightforward, with clear explanations of what's included and what's not. If unexpected conditions require itinerary adjustments, we explain the reasoning and offer alternatives. No one should feel confused about what they're receiving or what they're paying for.
Environmental responsibility informs our operational choices. We observe marine park regulations, maintain proper waste disposal practices, and educate guests about reef-safe behavior. The waters we navigate today need to remain viable for future generations.
Continuous improvement shapes our approach to training and equipment. Crew members participate in regular safety drills and skill development sessions. Vessels receive upgrades when technology offers meaningful safety or efficiency gains. We listen to feedback and adjust procedures when patterns suggest room for refinement.
